Gothic alphabet
http://www.omniglot.com/writing/gothic.htm

When you go here, and read the example of the Gothic alphabet (at the top, right next to where it says "Gothic Alphabet"), do you read it as "gothic" without thinking about it?

I think my cyrillac caused me to read it like that without blinking. I'm very curious to see who else reads those letters as "gothic" without first reading up on the Gothic alphabet.

someone just walked over my grave
And then I read this:

Related tribes included the Burgundians and the Vandals.

This site (omniglot) has been messing with me on many levels, in amusing poke kind of ways just like this. I'm paying attention, universe. I'll find whatever it is that's there.

I'm, of course, convinced at the moment, quite romantically, that I'm destined to decipher one or more of the undeciphered writing systems.

The last time I had that ... harken-to-another-time chills ... I was in college and there was a Romanian folkloric song being performed on stage, a woman with a kerchief, some kind of courting ritual or something.

I was singing it, all the sounds were in my throat and mouth and I was singing with her, and I'm still fairly certain I hadn't been exposed to the song previously.

Eeeenteresting. Pretty moments.

My favorite letter is thiuth. :)

Umm, No. It does strike me as very similar to the pseudo-druidic writings.

Completely. Even if the thorn (Þ) looks more like the Cyrillic ф than a 'th', it glosses very nicely as Гофік- 'Gofik.'

I'd gather my cyrillac was left in somebody elses pants.

I didn't read that as Gothic right away. Although, I did read it as Runik right away. Which, was obviously, correct.

On a glance I would read it as "gotik." The th just looks like a funky t to my uneducated brain, but I glossed right over the g and had to look at it a few times to realize that it wasn't a Roman G at all, but Cyrillic (at least that's where I'm familiar with it from.)

I guess those high school Russian classes weren't all wasted. :)
