Something I learned from my mom
OK, anecdote. I'm too bouncy to speak conceptually.

My mom was really shy, and (still is) socially retarded in school. She always use to tell me how everyone thought she was stuck up and snotty. She has about 50 stories she repeats endlessly. This is one of them.

I was at Rubin and Ed Thursday night (AMAZING movie! it's out of print, but if you ever ever have the opportunity, watch it 2 billion times, I laughed so hard I was screaming in the theatre, heh), and there was a tall thin goth girl there, dressed very well, super European ballet vertical, looking pretty Up Above It. She seemed to be sneering at everything. It was irrelevant to me, so I didn't pay much attention.

Last night, at a club I dance at (the Merc), I saw her. She was sitting on her own in the back bar and I observed her while I waited in line. I remembered my mom always telling me her stories about shyness and people misinterpreting that as arrogance, so I figured what the Hell.

Her name is Violet. She is, in fact, pretty deathly shy.

A bit of far-fetched synchronicity with dj_stitch ... we're stopping to say hello to the Shy Violets and it's worthwhile.

Honest, Officer, I had no alterior motives. But I'll take the title anyway, GRiN.

I'm pretty shy too. Case in point. When theDivas walked up to me and introduced herself as someone I used to know October 12 2002 I barely acknowledged her. She thought obviously that person (me)never wants to talk to her again and that I was dismissive.

Serendipity happens, and I'm glad. :-)

Was she the one with the high-cut reverse bob and the leg warmers over stompy boots? I think I saw her get out and dance later on in the evening, but mostly she just sat and watched people play pool.

That's her. And yeah, she finally got brave and did some dancing, though she spent a lot of time wallflowering and showing h the back of her bob ;)

Worth saying hi to, if you haven't already. She has a good sense of humor.
