Whales always have and always will make me deeply deeply romantic about our sister ecosystem/food chain, the sea. The article is about how they're compensating for boat noise pollution in their communication system :)

The orcas and the pure beauty of nature are the main reasons I go to San Juan Island every year. I love camping out at San Juan County park and knowing that I am so close to their playground that if I walk to the edge of camping area to the small cove in the morning or at night you can hear them calling, singing, splashing, and playing, and you realize just how amazing they really are.

I am planning on heading out there again this summer (I try to go May/June or early Sept to avoid some of the insanity) - let me know if you are interested. Campsites are $15-20 a day and really other then food the only real cost is the ferry.

I'm extremely interested. I'll be in Europe May 25-June 23, so if you do the early Sept thing and I haven't totally changed directions or committed to a new job that doesn't allow for it or whatever, I am so there.

I tried going to Friday Harbor once during offseason, and it was OK but kind of a bummer. I'm looking forward to giving the San Juans another chance.
