Forbes reflects trend towards sex positive attitudes
http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/violetblue/ <-- Violet Blue is a Forbes Top 25 Web Celeb

Thank you for the link, darkmane.

"Sex positive" was a phrase I wasn't introduced to until I moved to Seattle. Here's my quick take on it for those who have never encountered the phrase before and those who have will no doubt be quick to jump in and beat on the semantics for awhile ;>

Sex positive is celebrating and rejoicing in the many physical, mental and emotional benefits of the orgasm. You can be celibate until marriage, and still be sex positive before and in married life.

Sex positive is coming up with embracing, positive ways of replacing sex negative words like "slut", "whore", "jiggelo", "sodomy", "skank", "fag"... There are also some attempts at reclamation but I have to say I've never been a big fan of reclaiming words that have been used harmfully. I'm a much bigger fan of letting negatively charged words lie unused for a couple of centuries and deplete on their own time.

Sex negative: "Janet is a slut!" *disapproving look*
Sex positive: "Janet is very sexual!" *neutral or approving look*

Sex positive is sex and sexuality without guilt and without fear of being disciplined or scorned for embracing this really awesome thing our (and dolphins') bodies are built to enjoy.

Nothing better than dolphins to disarm folks who must contend with their own sex negative indoctrination. (I suppose it's kind of like putting puppies in laundry commercials, but what can I say ... it works GRIN)

It's interesting how many claims you hear about "unnatural" sex acts are for things which occur abundantly in nature. :)

It's eerie you should mention dolphins. Two Tuesdays ago I broached the subject of dolphin sex with a very liberal, yet self-proclaimed prudish womangirl, followed up with a detailed howto url by a guy who does this. And then last Tuesday she began talking about whales and how they too have prehensile penises. Success!

My favorite aspect of a sex positive society is less judgmental looks and more "hey, if it works for you" shrugs.

Thanks for posting this. Due to my insane curiosity I've been listening to Violet Blue's podcast at work (with headphones on of course). Some fun and yummy listening!
