Tao of the Day
To those who are good, I am good;
and to those who are not good, I am also good,
and thus get to be good.

To those who are sincere, I am sincere;
and to those who are not sincere, I am sincere,
and thus get to be sincere.

- Lao Tzu (Tao Te Ching #49, trans. Legge)

I think I've gotten somewhere with sincerity, but when it comes to goodness, well, I don't get to be good yet, and maybe I'm OK with that. I totally agree with the assertion, even if perhaps being good is not my ultimate goal.

Sincerity, on the other hand, definitely an important personal goal to me.

Being good is quite subjective thing. So before you can be good, you first have to choose whose definition of good you want to follow. I recommend defining it yourself. I have often noticed that when you let others define good, they add a lot of irrelevant stuff in and forget some important ones. :)

Excellent post. Well worth remembering for me while dealing with some of the children at the university. ;)
