Tao of the Day
We do not hold the belief that this earth is a realm of misery where man is doomed to destruction.
We do not think that tragedy is our natural fate and we do not live in chronic dread of disaster.
We do not expect disaster until we have specific reason to expect it - and when we encounter it we are free to fight it.
- Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

To be complete about the nature of intersection between Taoist pragmatist and Objectivist self-responsibility, I would add to this quote the following:

We do not hold the belief that this earth and its people owe us anything.
We do not think that need is naturally rewarded, nor that health and wealth comes without effort.
We do not expect gain until we have specific reason to expect it - and when we encounter it we are free to enjoy it.

Taoists value and cultivate health, but do what they can to avoid excessive wealth so they neither fear its loss nor create thieves.

Objectivists agree that wealth creates thieves - they just have a different solution.

Just noticed this... is your user icon a Lempicka? It has the same quality as the maybe-crassula photos I took yesterday.

It isn't, it's just a cactus, but it could be... same idea...

I might disagree and agree with your last sentence in the same motion.

I don't think objectivists believe wealth creates thieves. The points where money and personal value are separated are the points where people make mistakes, where thieves and fools are created. It isn't the money that created the evil, it was the original sin of acting without reason, true belief, value...

I think that's the message in Francisco's party speech when he responds to the notion that money is the root of all evil.
