India - Japan
Japan and India are continuing to develop their relationship:

I only hope that in the post-Bush years, the US will be able to be at least a minor player in this alliance. India has a long way to go on environmental and human rights concerns, but from what I've seen in the last few years, they're trending in a direction that I'm pleased to see.

My gut feeling is that this continued and improved alliance is good for the world as a whole, but it'd take me years to learn enough about both countries, and their impact on global trade, to justify it.

Anyone care to analyze or project some possible outcomes?

Meh. I have mixed feelings on the BBC's reporting. Japan and India have been talking for quite a while. When I was over there (2 years ago?) Japan was in a fit because India was utilizing France over Japan for the majority of their nuclear developments. This just sounds like Japan has found another way to capitolize on infrastrucutre development in India. India is still the hawt new girl in the club. There are many countries doing the 'shake-the-hand-of-the prime-minister' photo op.

As to India and the US's continued relationship, its very strained with our alliance with Pakistan, whom they consider a terrorist country. But we are their cash-cow for exported services. India is also starting to feel the pains of a devalued dollar. As the dollar has been going down many companies have been feeling the crunch because they signed X year contracts at US dollar rates. Now they're finding it might be more cost effective to sell the contract or relocate to a cheaper area.

News sources
RE: mixed feelings. me, too. Better than Fox, no doubt. Increasingly puffish and not well-edited since that one big wig resigned a year or two ago? Yup...

What's your preferred news source? (I mean, besides the News Nipple).
