Tao of the Day
I read about this guy when I was 12, who took a vow of silence to teach himself to listen. His observation was that most people don't really listen, they just wait to speak.

I was thinking about that this morning as I listened to two women in Chaco Canyon Cafe tripping over each other with their self-importance, and wondered if I'm like that, too, even with that early lesson and awareness from some thoughtful guy who took a vow of silence.

I guess today's Tao is:

Or as Pema Chödrön's part-Cherokee friend put it, "If you are quiet long enough, you might hear something."

For what its worth, I have never thought, "damn, I wish Kim would just shut up already!"

Shhh... hear that? Ninjas! =)
