Tao of the Day
I was flipping through 365 Tao by Deng Ming-Dao this morning, when I came across 2 entries in rapid succession that formed a perfect yin-yang. It's all about balance, and was a good reminder to me to be mindful of both stillness and motion, and to maintain a decent balance.

A moving door hinge never corrodes.
Flowing water never grows stagnant.

Cat sits in the sun.
Dog sits in the grass.
Turtle sits on the rock.
Frog sits on the lily pad.
Why aren't people so smart?

sometimes we are the rock in the river, with all flowing over or around us. Sometimes we are the river, flowing over and around the rocks. :)

One of Pema Chödrön's core concepts in When Things Fall Apart and the Moyer interview is how uncomfortable we are with just being peaceful with ourselves. We can't just sit with ourselves - we need a book, or the sunglasses, like in that one "armor" episode of Sex and the City.

I'll have to see if I can figure out which season it's in. I think it's after the Mr. Big breakup and before Aedin.

Oh, how I love Aedin. Oh how I despise Carrie for hurting him. Hmph.

Lauren and Maxx are reading my copy right now. Then Anthony, if he still wants to. Then Aimee. If you still don't have your own copy after that, you can be next :) Lauren has been getting a lot of good stuff out of it too, so it's not just me. I'd be really interested in your thoughts on it, too.
