Sept 21 - Park(ing) Day

Friday, September 21, people around the world will be picking a parking space and transforming it into a mini-park for the day.

Seattle, WA

Two mobile Park(ing) parks will first be sited at the Seattle Art Museum and the Olympic Sculpture Park - each complete with grass, a Hawthorne tree, and a bench - and through the day they'll move down 1st Avenue to ultimately swap locations. In addition, there will be a stationary park along the waterfront next to the Seattle Aquarium.

In other news, September 21st will be the day I need to get bailed out of jail for deliberately running over a "pedestrian."

Or, it amuses me to imagine you touring the city with a weed whacker. And to be thoroughly curmudgeony, you could drag around a bottle of toxic pesticide. GRiN

Y'know, it's not that I'm opposed to their message ... we do need more parks; I'm a huge fan of parks.

But I think taking up a rather valuable parking space on the waterfront on a Friday is not going to cause some commuter to think "Gosh, they're right - I need to get out of my car and into some nature-stuff." I think, honestly, that the response would be unairable during prime time television, and if written in Cartoon would be #@$%#$%.
