Hallmark Cards - Gay Marriage & Coming Out
My dad was a career Hallmark guy - from graduation to retirement, he was a packaging engineer there. His name is on the patent for the rounded corners on puzzle boxes that won't poke your eye out. I still flip over cards whenever I receive them to see what company provided them. Hallmark's HQ is in Kansas City, MO and many Hallmarkers live in Kansas where there is a gay marriage ban on the books. I'm glad they took the initiative to do something, and I suspect, like Sprint, their actions were probably motivated by queer and queer-ally employees as a retaliation to the gay marriage ban there.

Hallmark starts making gay marriage cards! "Two Hearts, One Promise." They have also started making Coming Out cards. I've got to see this. Pretty damn historic, in my mind, but I'm probably biased since I'm from a Hallmark family where Sending Cards Is a Big Deal.

blueariespoet, thanks a million for this link!

I'm so proud I'm from a Hallmark family right now.

That is really, really fucking cool.

It represents a shift in culture, which is profound. This coming from a company not only based in a more conservative part of the country, but a company with nation-wide cultural significance? Freakin' awesome.

it makes me incredibly happy to hear about this.

ditto on what she said.

Hallmark cards just kind of scream "tradition" (even with as much innovation and variation as they have in their line of products, overall as a brand, to me and many others i'm sure, Hallmark and "tradition" go hand in hand). so it's wonderful to see Hallmark embracing something long overdue by society at large, but still obviously extremely controversial.
