Tao of the Day
Renunciation means to leave the mundane world, but enlightenment comes from traveling through the world.

- Deng Ming-Dao, The Chronicles of Tao

That would depend on the cave... perhaps you could live in a REALLY, REALLY DEEP cave that goes RIGHT THROUGH THE WORLD.

Thus you could travel through the world every time you go from your front to back door.

About ten years ago (where does the time go!), His Holiness the Dalai Lama did a Kalachakra initiation in Bloomington, Indiana. The whole production went on for a week and a half, but for a couple of days, he took questions from the attendees . . .
(If I hadn't already been a fan, any of several of the things I saw there would have made me one.) I was impressed that he took some of the hard questions, and took them head on.
One woman asked about her husband, who had decided that he wanted to go off into the woods and become a hermit. Which obviously wouldn't do her marriage any good!
The Dalai Lama said that that sort of monasticism was only very rarely indicated . . .
